Why Write a Yearly Creative Manifesto?
Ditch the bland New Year’s resolutions for a powerful declaration of your creative intentions
As artists, writers, and creators, we don’t always want to plan our year in a paint-by-numbers sort of way. So if SMART goals are starting to feel a bit dim, and trite New Year’s resolutions don’t motivate you, then a manifesto may be what you need to zero in on your purpose.
As I wrote in issue 1 of my zine, The Muse Manifesto, “The manifesto announces itself to the world as a bold step in a new direction. It inspires you to take action rather than sit idly by, waiting for inspiration to strike. And the word itself — ‘manifesto’ — implies something to manifest, to take physical form.”
So how do you write one?
For the first time ever, I’m sharing the manifestos I’ve written for myself to stick to my yearly goals — and what I include in them to cast these powerful spells.
I hope they serve as inspiration for you in the new year, or whenever you decide that it’s time to remind yourself of your creative superpowers! After the examples, I break down a helpful format that I use so you can try writing your own manifesto.
